Open source migration · sovereign IT

Exit Windows.Structured migration.

For SMBs: fleet audit, alternatives to Office and Microsoft 365, wave-by-wave migration. The open source path the French State already took — no gamble, with a costed audit upfront.

§ 02
— Four scopes of work

What we handle, concretely.

01 / 04
Audit.
Fleet + apps feasibility · €590

Migration audit

Before committing, we validate it works. Hardware inventory, business apps testing, real blocker identification, costed cutover plan.

  • Workstation inventory (CPU, RAM, GPU, peripherals)
  • Business apps testing on pilot workstation
  • Justified distribution choice
  • Costed and phased cutover plan
02 / 04
Migration.
Full workstations · from €250

Workstation migration

Wave-by-wave cutover of 5 to 10 workstations to limit friction. Backup, install, data, apps, user training in the same day.

  • Full data + settings backup
  • Linux install + drivers + standard apps
  • Email, contacts, files migration
  • 1h group training per wave
03 / 04
Apps.
Business compatibility · on quote

Business apps

Adobe, AutoCAD, Sage, sector software: case-by-case evaluation. Wine, Bottles, Windows VM, or native alternative — we choose what works, not what's preferred.

  • Wine or Bottles testing for Windows apps
  • Lightweight Windows VM if blocked
  • Search for native Linux alternatives
  • Documentation of remaining limits
04 / 04
Support.
Hyper-care + care · from €290/mo

Post-migration support

The 2 weeks after a cutover are critical. Dedicated helpdesk, training sessions, user docs, continuous care if you want. Prevents users from panicking back to Windows.

  • Helpdesk in French email + video
  • 2-week hyper-care post-cutover (included)
  • Continuous care (patching, updates, support)
  • User documentation maintained up to date
§ 03
— We hear it all the time

Six pains we know.

01
Microsoft 365 climbing
€12/user/month for Business Standard. On 50 users, €7,200/year. And it goes up every year, with no control on your side.
02
Cloud Act and US-hosted data
Your files, emails, identities hosted on Microsoft Graph. NIS2, GDPR, trade secret compliance: impossible to guarantee outside French sovereignty.
03
Vendor lock-in
Office, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive: all bundled. Exiting one Microsoft product becomes a global migration project. You no longer decide.
04
Microsoft / Crowdstrike outages
The July 2024 Crowdstrike incident paralyzed entire SMBs. When your IT depends on a single actor, you fall with them.
05
Constrained hardware
Windows 11 refuses 2018-2020 workstations (TPM 2.0, recent CPU). Microsoft forces you to repurchase machines that still work fine.
06
Sovereignty ignored
France has been pushing open source for 15 years (Gendarmerie, State digital suite, DINUM SILL). SMBs stayed all-Microsoft out of habit, not choice.
They already made the move

Open source in production, at French national scale

Six French public institutions and programmes that already shifted. Not prototypes: production deployments, over years, with security and compliance constraints.

§ 04
— Who it's for

The right match.

We're a good fit if
  • You have 1 to 100 Windows workstations to evolve
  • Your business apps are web, multi-platform or Wine-compatible
  • You want out of Microsoft costs (Win, Office, ESU)
  • You're sovereignty-conscious (GDPR, NIS2, French hosting)
  • You accept 1 to 3 months of progressive transition rather than a big bang
We're not the right choice if
  • Your business strictly depends on Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD or Windows-only software with no alternative
  • You want instant change without user transition or support
  • You're looking for a provider that validates your choices without questioning real dependencies

§ 05
— How it works

Three steps. Not one more.

01

Scoping call.

02

Audit + pilot.

Progressive migration · no business interruption

03

Cutover + training.

Three paths

Which shift fits your SMB?

Three approaches cover 90% of cases. The choice depends on your change tolerance, business apps and NIS2 deadline. We'll orient you honestly at scoping.

Status quo

All-Microsoft

Idéal pour

Very non-technical teams, critical dependence on Microsoft 365 + Adobe, low sensitivity to sovereignty or recurring costs.

Tradeoffs

€12 to €30/user/month recurring, data on Microsoft Graph (Cloud Act), NIS2 compliance hard, growing vendor lock-in with each release.

Our recommendation

Pragmatic hybrid

Idéal pour

20-100 seat SMBs starting gently: Linux OS + OnlyOffice + Nextcloud, while keeping Teams web or 1-2 critical Windows apps in a VM. User transition in 3 to 6 months.

Tradeoffs

Not 100% sovereign (some SaaS apps kept), but 70-80% of fleet shifts quickly with controlled risk. Microsoft costs reduced 60-70%.

DINUM-aligned

Full open source

Idéal pour

SMBs with mostly web or multi-platform apps, strong sovereignty needs (healthcare, legal, defense, public sector), imminent NIS2 deadline.

Tradeoffs

6 to 12 months transition, some business apps need workarounds (Wine, VM, alternative). Benefit: 100% sovereign, maximum alignment with French State strategy.

The right choice depends on your context. We often start with hybrid and progressively extend to full open source as the team and apps follow.

§ 07
— After the cutover?

We stay reachable.

Migration is not an event, it's a habit shift. Here is how we support (or not) what comes next.

01
2-week hyper-care
During the 2 weeks after a group cutover, priority support to resolve daily friction at no cost. It's the critical phase to avoid rejection.
02
User documentation
Practical guide to Windows → Linux equivalences for daily uses (email, files, printing, scanning, sharing). Maintained, distributable internally.
03
Continuous support · if you want
Monthly retainer for helpdesk, patching, training. Opt-out with notice. Otherwise, your internal IT picks up with the transferred documentation.
§ 08
— Frequent questions

About us. No fluff.

Because it's documented, tested at scale, and economically validated. French Gendarmerie on Ubuntu since 2008 (~80,000 workstations). DINUM (Interministerial Digital Directorate) maintains the SILL (Interministerial Free Software Catalogue). State digital suite replacing M365. Education ministry on Linux in several regions. If the State, with its security, compliance and public budget constraints, made this choice, your SMB can follow it with controlled risk.
